My thoughts on…the death of Batman
December 2nd 2008 -
I heard the rumours, and I didn’t want to believe them. But they’re true. In the latest comic, appropriately titled R.I.P., Bruce Wayne, a.k.a. Batman DIES! That’s right. You heard me. This is more groundbreaking than when DC turned Batwoman into a lesbian or when Spider-Man revealed himself to be Peter Parker in Marvel Civil War. Yeah that’s right. I follow up on comics, as old as I am. No, I don’t live in my mom’s basement, I have a fairly active social life and my girlfriend isn’t inflatable, thank you very much.
But that’s not the worst part. He’s killed by the person whose supposed death caused him to become The Caped Crusader - his own dad! Talk about a plot twist! I know someone who won’t be nominated for Father of the Year. But what sucks is the way Batman dies. He gets killed by a single bullet. That’s it. Just one shot. For a hero legendary enough to rival Superman and one who’s survived pretty much everything that an over-the-top, cartoonish villain could possibly throw at you, that’s a shitty way to go.
Still, I won’t shed a tear, ’cause this is the world of comics. Anything’s possible. He’ll probably come back, and even more badass than before. This is obviously a way for DC to sell more comics, as they’ve been facing stiff competition from Marvel lately. They pulled it once before with the “Death” of Superman, and a few other lesser known superheroes have “died” in the past. Yeah right. Kill off one of your most iconic characters at the drop of a hat? I don’t think DC’s that foolish or daring. But if they are, I hope Dick Grayson puts on the cape and cowl. Only he is worthy of the name Batman. Tim Drake? Not nearly experienced or cool enough. Jason Todd? Wait? Who said that? Ok, go sit in the corner dumbass.

Batman may be died on this issue, but he’s gonna be back i’m pretty sure of that. Just like how Superman came back to life.

How about when they killed Captain america and Superman. Big ones also my friend. I doubt Batman will be dead for long.

A) Nice, knocking out the spoilers mid post takes a lot of balls - I like the cut of your jib.
B) No one ever stays dead in comics. I think this was more of a PR move to help an industry that’s being decimated by downloading.
C) Like video games, it’s mostly socially acceptable to read comics as an adult now.
