My thoughts on…the Star Trek XI trailer

Recently I learned of the release of the latest Star Trek trailer, a film I’ve been eager to see. I expected nothing more than a mere sneak peek. In fact, I got more than I expected. See for yourself.

Wow! I actually watched that about half dozen times straight! I was really worried about what the actual movie would look, but now my fears have been put to rest (for the most part). I thought it would make the Star Trek universe collapse on itself like some spatial anomaly, the kind Kirk and crew would take an episode to solve. I know my fellow Trekkies had the same fears, though some of them are worried that J.J. Abrams will do to Star Trek what Lucas did to Star Wars, others are whining “Waah! J.J’s raping my childhood” and a few still cling to that antiquated “odd numbered movies suck” rule.

I grew up with Picard, but as I learn more about him, I’m really starting to like Kirk. So much so that I’m willing to pay money to see him in action. It is said that prequels normally ruin the mystique of legendary characters, such as Darth Vader and Hannibal Lecter. But from my experience, that only applies to villains. Reading the Wikipedia entry for the movie made me realize that the director, cast and everyone involved are taking this seriously, so this will be a movie worthy of its proud pedigree. I just hope the fanboys don’t give it a bad name by constantly bitching about it. As for me, beam me up on May 8, 2009 Scotty!

Star Trek is a classic so they really should play it seriously and not mess it up. I’ve also watched the trailer and from what I’ve seen, I agree with you that this movie will be a good one.

I saw the trailer over by Jamaipanese blog. Looks interesting but not sure if I will fork out movie ticket money.

I saw two trailers one on tv one in a theater. The one you show above is okay. The one on tv with Uhura taking off her shirt just irritated me.
I’m all for the taking off of shirts within context. But that was just blatant. Please come to this movie and see this cute black chick take off her shirt even if you hate star trek. I wish this movie was being made by a purist who actually remembers the original Uhura and what her presence on the ship meant.

Movies cost 10.50 where I live so I don’t go so much anymore. But I’m going to this! Star Trek forever!
