My thoughts on…Sarah Palin
October 10th 2008 -
A while back, when it was just the two presidential hopefuls duking it out, Obama was kicking McCain’s pasty, ancient ass left, right and centre. He was drowning under Obama’s charisma and passionate speeches, plus it didn’t help that he was being viewed as the same as Bush. Something had to be done, and fast! So he thought, “what’s a black man’s kryptonite?” Then it came to him. A white woman! (No wonder Hilary was so successful against him. And you thought it was that whole “Clinton” business.) So he searched for a white woman, any white woman, that would side with him. His search brough him to the cold climes of Alaska, to a Mrs. Sarah Palin. “Hmm, let’s see. Woman. Check. Narrow-minded conservative. Check. Gun-toting warmonger. Check. Power hungry. Check. Can’t pronounce “noo-cleer.” Check. IQ. Well…it’s not like the American public cares about that. And if anyone thinks so, I’ve got one word for them: Dubya.”
So Palin stepped into the spotlight, and threw a wrench (or rather an antler) into the Obama media juggernaut, for a moment. Here comes the all-American woman. Former beauty queen, married her high school sweetheart, has five kids, and started in the PTA. A vote for her is a vote for advancing women everywhere right? Well if you’re thinking like that, McCain’s caught another sucker. If you actually sat down and listened to what she stands for, or watched her debate, you’d know that she’s a terrible choice for VP. She sidesteps the issues and does it with conviction and a smile, and that’s all you really need to convince people really. You could be talking utter bulls*$t, but say it with confidence and you can bet your bottom dollar that the majority will believe you. Worse in a society where people are used to convenience. No one wants to sit down and analyse the issues. That’s too HARD!
No one in the Republican Party takes her seriously, and it’s obvious that she’s being used by McCain as a pawn to gain media coverage and a few votes from the Oprah-loving, middle-aged, suburban soccer moms out there. Or is it the other way around? Is McCain Palin’s pawn? He isn’t exactly a spring chicken. The actuarial tables on the Social Security Administration website suggest that there is a better than 10% chance that McCain will die during his first term in office. And should President McCain survive his first term and get re-elected, there is a 27% chance that Palin will become the first female U.S. president by 2015. Suck it Clinton. If that happens, Dubya will seem like JFK in comparison. I realise that Americans seem to like seeing average Joes rise to power. I guess it gives them faith in the American Dream again. But Americans, think carefully about who you want to put in the Oval Office. America is in dire straits right now, and the next president could remake or break that great country of yours. Voting by sentiment got you in this mess. Let’s see if voting by reason gets you out of it.

She sidesteps anything that she has not been prepped to answer or talk about.

When I heard about Palin for the first time, I immediately thought — he doesn’t need to attract the base with Caribou Barbie - the base would have come around to voting for him anyway. As if they would ever vote for a black guy? Please. Grampy is getting some bad advice — and taking it. Interesting that he’s using the same Bush strategists who went after him in 2000. I like your blog…keep going with the politics.
