My thoughts on…Claus crucified
If you’re like me, and you’re tired of being engulfed with ads from corporations trying to persuade you to buy their overpriced crap and trying to make you feel bad if you don’t spend the holidays at the mall, looking at your wallet and seeing more space than the folks at NASA, and scratching your head trying to find a single Nativity Scene, then you’ll love this story. A Mr. Art Conrad of Bremerton, Washington crucified a Santa Claus in front of his home in order to protest the commercialization of the holiday.
“Santa has been perverted from who he started out to be,” Conrad said. “Now he’s the person being used by corporations to get us to buy more stuff.” He also used the crucified Santa on his Christmas cards, complete with the message “Santa died for your MasterCard.” While I applaud Mr. Conrad’s effort, I believe he should’ve protested the perversion of Christmas, not the perversion of Santa. Fine. I admit there are a lot of pagan elements in the holiday, such as the Christmas tree and mistletoe, but it is still “Christ’s Mass,” not “Santa’s Mass.” Still, it’s good to see a bit of common sense prevailing amidst the mad rush to fill corporate coffers.

Who the hell is Santa? ^_^
Iagree with what you have said here, Leon. Hey, Natty gave your blog a read and she was impressed. She said she was surprised when she read that you were only 21.
LOL! This guy definitely has too much time on his hands!
I not so sure Santa is the culprit but as the fac eof Cmas he tekking the blame:)
Yes,Christmas today has been hijacked by the corporations. The festive, spiritual and religious spirit of Christmas no longer exists. These values or sentiments have been totally eclipsed by crass and gaudy commercialism.Christmas is about consumption, consumption, and ,more consumption, with people placing themselves in debt by purchasing unnecessary items in the name of giving. The symbolic sacrifice of Santa Claus is interesting.Hopefully,at some point in the future there will be a retreat from this heavy commercialization and a resurgence of the spiritual, festive and religious values.By the way, a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR! RESPECT!!
I buy Santa a bottle of egg nog laced with cheap bourbon and brandy. Then I get whatever I want.
I so agree with you on what a damn joke this holiday has become.
Santa’s agent would prob’ly tell Conrad no publicity is bad publicity, ’cause Conrad’s now elevated Santa to de level of Saviour Crucified, thus helpin’ corporations in their relentless efforts to add divinity to de commercial figure. Anyway, Leon, Merry Christmas & Happy 2008!
well, if one is Catholic, Saint Nicholas is a pretty important person who lived sometime a long time ago and did nice things for the poor. To turn him into a supernatural creature who gives xbox games to kids if they pester people enough is really disgusting and should be offensive to faithful believers.
