My thoughts on…Star Trek: The Next Generation’s 20th anniversary
Twenty years ago, on September 28th, 1987 to be precise, Star Trek: The Next Generation premiered. Man I feel old! People were skeptical as to whether the new series would be a success, and indeed it was, drawing more audiences than the original Star Trek (and many network programs). Several years later, the show has become a big part of pop culture. Phrases like “Engage,” “Resistance is futile” and “Make it so!” were born from the franchise. I was a big fan of the series, which explains my love for technology, space exploration and all that crap. This show made me want to become an astronaut. But then I realized that Cape Canaveral wasn’t located in Jamaica. And that was one of my first broken dreams.
It also introduced me to Captain Jean Luc-Picard, possibly the only Frenchman besides Jean Reno that I actually rate. In fact, I’m pretty sure that watching Star Trek: TNG destined me for geekdom, causing me to accumulate great knowledge and expertise, but at great expense to my social life. Now everyone I meet instantly thinks I’m a either a punk or a virgin. (Not like there’s anything wrong with that. It’s just annoying.) Should I be celebrating this anyway? Anyway, happy 20th Next Generation. I still love you and I still watch you to this day, though you’re starting to look dated and not nearly as awesome when I was younger. Can’t wait the see the new Star Trek movie next year.

Yes, Captain Picard was all that and a bag of space-chips. He and number one and Jordi (sp?) and Worf — “The higher, the fewer!” (and my brother would add Counselor DeAnna Troy to de list).
Lieutenant data = boss
I feel all geeky just thinking about the memories of this series
Leon, you feel old?
I used to skip church to watch the original with William Shatner…
See you at the movies!
at least you don’t rate star wars higher.
That’s a very important question when finding someone to date you know. I breathed a sigh of relief a few nights ago when he whispered his true feelings in my ear. I was waiting with bated breath and his deep bass (okay it was tenor) voice was carried along over the optic cables and he said these words to me: Star Trek.
I melted.
I used to love watching Star Trek the Next Generation when I was younger. Not so much of a fan now but I do watch an episode now and then.

[...] Star Trek: The Next Generation celebrated its 20th anniversary the other day. And now news of the final cast for Star Trek XI is trickling in. The great James Tiberius Kirk will be played by Chris Pine. Yeah, I don’t know who he is either. At least it’s not Ben Affleck. Sylar, (I mean Zachary Quinto) will play Mr. Spock. Good choice. If he can kill all those people while keeping a straight face, then being “logical” should be no problem. Zoe Saldana will be playing Uhura. Mmmm. Zoe in Uhura’s ultra-short mini-skirts. I predict there will be an unusual amount of non-Trekkies packed in those theatres. [...]
And, how about that Earl Gray tea…??
