the_dark_knight.jpgThe Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins, will open in summer 2008. But the Warner Bros. marketing machine is in full swing, baiting us with little details, as all good blockbusters tend to do nowadays. The trailer was released September 7. I saw it last night, and since then, I’ve watched it at least a dozen times. It’s less than a minute long, but it’s just that good, the highlight being the Joker’s diabolical cackle at the end. The official website does nothing more than link to Harvey Dent’s campaign site. (For those who don’t know, Harvey Dent is Two-Face in the comics, so we have a good idea who will be Batman’s nemesis in the third movie.)

There is also another site called I Believe In Harvey Dent Too, on which The Joker defaced Dent’s poster. Think there’s nothing on the site now? Hit CTRL+A and find out. But back to the Joker? Sure we know about the Batpod and the new suit, but most of us are interested in Christopher Nolan’s re-imagining of the Joker, and if Heath Ledger can live up to Jack Nicholson’s iconic performance. Well, all signs point to a darker, Saw type Joker, with more psychopath and less silly. Don’t believe me? Well, a picture’s worth a thousand words. Jack’s performance was great, but it had a bit too much camp for my taste. I think this new Joker might give me a fear of clowns. I like the way Nolan’s going with the franchise, steering towards its roots, and away from anatomically correct suits, complete with *cringe* nipples. And if it’s anything like Batman Begins, Warner Bros. is guaranteed a buck off me.
