My thoughts on…Michael Vick’s doggie distress
They say dogs are a man’s best friend. Well, except one. Michael Vick. The dogfighting scandal he’s been embroiled in has sent his career…well, to the dogs. I wasn’t gonna post on this until I saw an article about Mike’s trading cards being chewed up by dogs and sold on EBay. (If that isn’t poetic justice, I don’t know what is.) That’s when it became postworthy.
Turns out these cards are selling like bombs in an Islamic country. Each card is worth $455, making them the most expensive Michael Vick cards - ever. I feel sorry for the guy. This scandal has ruined him, both professionally and personally. Dogfighting is savage, I agree. Plus the dogs that lost or were unfit to fight met a cruel end, via electrocution, drowning, strangulation, etc. But people have blown it out of proportion. They make it seem as if he killed somebody. Well, it would’ve been better if he did that. At least he could’ve become a rapper. I suppose it’s because Americans have such an unnatural love for their pets.
Vick’s being targeted by humane societies because he’s got money, fame and status. (It could also be a race issue.) If it was any average Joe, it wouldn’t even make the evening news. Still, being a celebrity, he should’ve known better, ’cause when people love you, they love you. And when they hate you, boy do they hate you. Well Mike, whatcha gonna do now? Well, with that muscular physique, you could flip more burgers than all the staff at the local BK.

I cant say they really blowing it out of proportion… what he did to those dogs is sick… he is lucky he has his fame and fortune as that will prob reduce his sentence…. Ok maybe they are overdoing it a TAD but this is American media the like their new well done… otherwise its just a by story
You have a great new blog here!
New place is looking good my man. I deplore what he did but we do have an issue in this country where it seems like an animal, at times, is more valued than a human life. Also, if he killed another black man his age in cold blood there would indeed be less outrage. But if he killed a white woman or a kid, they would put him on death row.
Again, there is NO EXCUSE for acting like this. It’s sick and depraved but there are others in the NFL that have killed people and there is less outrage. Race also may not be as big as a factor as you think with this case however. When it comes to animals here, no matter what color your skin is, people will call for your head.
Thanks Captain Picard! You too Ricardo! I do the best I can.
It was the viciousness of the killings, not the dog fighting itself, that raised the level of his crime in my mind. I sure would not want my son on a football field playing against someone with that sadistic a tendency.
Can’t say am sorry for him. I dont get why he needed th emoney with such a big contract..oh well
Here is the thing: Everyone is saying how people are going on like he killed someone and how he would have been better off if he had. Also, how it seems animals are valued more than humans.
That is rubbish. If Michael Vick had men and women kept forcibly on his farm, training them to fight to the death and electrocuting them to death if they lost a fight, I submit that there would have been a whole lot more noise.
Tell me you don’t agree! Come on, you know its true.
Its just that the rest of the world (non US/English/European) hold all animals as being of little value or importance, so any time someone gets their nose out of joint over animal treatment, they think the people are going over the top.
Now if he had killed a single person, it might have made less of a story (and that is a pretty big “might”), but when he came before the courts, his sentence would have been much more than 18 months. That points out that killing a single person would be considered as being way more important than the cruel, depraved killing of many animals.
I think the guy deserves a ruffer sentence, but whatever…
i really do not think that the media was blowing it out of proportion. for the the first time i don’t agree with your blog. what he did was absolutly sick and i hope he gets whats coming for him. and i dont know about the media in other countries, but i know in Canada we hear about a lot of abuse cases, animal or not. even from average joes!
