G4 doesn't have "TechTv roots". Both stations existed separately for years, then comcast bought TechTV from Ziff Davis Media and merged it with their floundering G4 network, killed the tech programming and restructured the network format only slightly in buying up some syndicated properties. Basically, they just wanted to put the network in more markets and killed another one to do it. Obviously it didn't work as G4 is still now as it was then, the lowest rated network on cable.
