My thoughts on…the Star Wars marathon on Cinemax
December 4th 2006 -
On Friday, November 10th, “Skinemax”, for one brief moment in time, cut the porn to air a Star Wars marathon. Fanboys rejoiced, and freaks hung their heads in disappointment (both of them). The actual marathon ended on the 13th, but the movies were re-aired on the 16th and 17th and in the weeks of the 20th and the 26th, ending on the 1st of December. When I first saw the ad, I had a nerdgasm, and screamed like a teenage girl at an N*Sync concert. So loud that I had to cover my mouth in fear that the neighbours would hear me. Thanks to the marathon, I saw Episode I for the first time, finally understanding why people hate Jar Jar so much. My little sister saw all the episodes except II and III for the first time.
My sister fell asleep halfway through Episode I. I woke her up as much as I could, but she’d stay awake for about two minutes then fall asleep again. I on the other hand, stayed up till around eight in the morning, fighting fatigue as best as I could. But it wasn’t easy. At the end of it all, my left eye felt as if it had been punched further in its socket, my eyes were watery and red from exhaustion, and it could have been my imagination, but they seemed a bit…yellow. And I endured all that, only to find out that it wasn’t a one shot deal, but a weekend long marathon. Bloody hell.
Still, I enjoyed that trip to that galaxy far, far away. I marveled at the brilliance of Palpatine’s schemes, watched the love between Han and Leia blossom, proving that good girls really do like bad boys, something that being a good guy, I’ve learned the hard way, squirmed when Luke and Leia shared that kiss, knowing full well that they are brother and sister, watch Anakin change from a brainy Mama’s boy to a whiny punk to a cyborg with a baritone voice and a penchant for strangulation, and scratch my head as to how the Empire got beaten by dwarfish teddy bear like creatures whose most advanced technology was fire. All in all, it was one of the best moments of my life, which is kinda sad really. Thanks for the memories Cinemax. Now back to your regularly scheduled soft core porn.

I have launched my own personal protest and refused to watch the so-called episodes I through III! The original Star Wars trilogy are the only ones that matter, and I resent George Lucas’ tampering with a great thing. Cho!
Love those episodes. My son and I have a marathon at least once er year. He is not a naturalist as I am, and has sold out and watched the other fake episodes. Bummer. Sigh. One can only teach them so much.

I disagree with you Madam Afroditee. I think the new episodes add an extra dimension to the saga.
