My thoughts on…Muslim fury at the Pope
The other day, the Pope quoted the words of a 14-century Byzantine emperor, and Muslims were outraged. Why? Well, the emperor that the Pope quoted said, “Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.” Their anger is understandable, but the Pope’s words weren’t his own. But Muslims seem to think that he shares his sentiments, despite the Pope’s numerous apologies. In fact, I’m tired of reading news articles about him apologizing. What does he have to do? Kiss the feet of every Muslim on Earth?
Muslims have acted in extreme violence, killing an Italian nun and her bodyguard, throwing Molotov cocktails at churches, burning Pope effigies, chanting “Death to the Pope” and demanding his resignation. Even Al-Qaeda has threatened the Pope. I understand that Muslims should feel offended, but remember that these were the words of a long deceased ruler, and that the Pope did not share his views. Still, the Pope should have known better than to use such a potentially controversial quote. And all of this violence is not doing Muslims any favours. Muslims have been stereotyped as terrorists since 9/11, and these violent acts don’t give a good impression of “the religion of peace.”

There’s such a tense air about every-ting these days. He could’ve only expected that that quote would’ve increased de tension.
Ahm…. Where to begin…
Imagine you belong to any other religion other than christianity
and because of the acts of a few you are automatically feared internationally and stereotyped in the worse way.
The the man who headed the church that for centries Totured and Killed many of those before you makes a statement like that….
To make it Easier.. look at this way Suppose the head of the KluKluxKlan made a comment like that do you think It matters what context it is in.
Where as that is an extreme case, Right now muslims feel very isolated and we are to blame. More and more we are forcing them to look at things in the light of Us against the world. As such ppl ,being ppl, it wont take much to set them off….
Two thoughts: if the pope didn’t believe it, why did he repeat it?
And those who live in glass houses ought not throw stones. The Church and Christianity have more blood on their hands than the Muslims and Jews combined, several times over.
you just can’t go around quoting stuff out of context!
Italian nuns have body guards now? cool.
@ Brad: Where are the figures to prove this? Yeah, I know a lot of blood has been shed on both sides, but who has provable data to say which side is bloodier. Is nuff, nuff evil the muslim people have carried out throughout history, you know! Hey, as an example, you think is only Christians was involved in slavery and all the bloodshed that goes with that? Don’t assume say the christians were the bloodier of the two! Prove it!
what can i say… context context context.. if i got the context that the pope said it in maybe i could say if they are being extreme..
why must everyone who says something that may be offensive be killed? What happened to talking things out? It’s a bad thing to say but the reaction is far worse.
He - or his advisors should have known better - they know how *difficult* things are at present and should have avoided ANTHING that was likely to inflame already heated passions.
The pope had so many other ways that he could have approached the issue he was addressing. This was a not so wise one.
That said, some of the retalitory actions to the incident are, in my mind, just not tolerable and that has nothing to do with religious grounds.
I wonder why when something bad happen they look at religion, if the person is muslim then the whole world blame Muslims and Islam and if he wasn’t a Muslim then he must be crazy person, drunk, drugged, depressed but you never hear anyone blaming other religions.
I mean is it war against Islam ? else what is it then ?
