My thoughts on…Steve Irwin’s death
September 4th 2006 -
Crikey! Steve Irwin, better known as “The Crocodile Hunter,” was killed yesterday after being stung by a stingray in the heart. Didn’t see that coming now did you? I and most people thought that a pissed off croc would be the one to take him out. I was shocked when I heard the news. I loved Steve Irwin, and I say that without fear of homosexual connotations. He was a good-natured guy that loved animals and the environment. The khaki-clad daredevil often tangled with some of the world’s deadliest creatures. He was beloved around the world, with half a billion people tuning in to his show to see some good ol’ man-on-croc action, and donated a significant portion of the show’s earnings to help preserve the environment he loved so much. I always thought the man was crazy, but hey, we all love watching a crazy person. That there was a real man, and a lot of the punks making light of his death would wet themselves if they spend a minute in his shoes. At least he went out doing what he loved, and no crocs got the best of him! My condolences to his wife and children. R.I.P. mate!

And so surprisin’ what ah just read at Scratchie’s: Irwin unwittingly taught J’cans how 2 capture crocs. He had a childlike quality that it was a pleasure 2 share. Now, all over de world, crocodile tears (literally).

Great post! I heard about it late last night and wasn’t too surprised. I figured he’d go out like that somehow.
Great guy.

It’s sad, but it was inevitable. You just don’t mess with nature like that. We’re civil, they’re not. Anyway, my blog is just as random as yours, and I love it! keep up the good work. I’m glad I’m not the only one with a wondering mind

Excellent post, Leon. Thanks for leaving a comment in Steve’s honor at my site. Ever since I discovered your blog, I read it as often as I can. I appreciate thinkers like yourself. The world is just a little bit sadder now that we’ve lost Steve. For me, one word describes him, and may I use some Aussie vernacular:
BEAUTY!

I was also shocked to know of his death. I found about it from my friend’s blog. Immediately, I checked it on a news channel to confirm it. It’s really sad to lose a person like him. I hope someone could continue his legacy and what he’s doing for the animals and the environment. Like you, I always thought that if he ever had an accident, it would be because of an encounter with a crocodile. This was totally unexpected.
