The Mexican and American governments have been at loggerheads over the whole immigration debate. Now there’s another thing for them to be at each other’s throats about. Vicente Fox, Mexico’s president, proposed a bill legalizing the use of small amounts of drugs for personal use, such as marijuana, cocaine, LSD, ecstasy and others. Legalizing the use of drugs? In Mexico? Maybe in a more stable country, but Mexico is a land of desperation and vice. What was he thinking? When he thought of that, he must have been…well, you know. Needless to say, the American government was not happy about this. He states that his reason for this was to focus on targeting major drug traffickers.

Help me here, I’m still trying to find the logic in all of this. Legalizing the use of drugs to crack down on the sale of drugs? I don’t get it. Another thing Americans will cross the border for, besides lax laws on the use of alcohol, illegal surgery and cheap prostitutes. But potheads, don’t plan your trips to Tijuana just yet (I know this becuase if you’re a regular reader of this blog, you’re probably stoned yourself). Just before Vicente could turn Mexico into a stoner’s paradise, he changed his mind! He stated that it would give the impression that he was encouraging narco-tourism. When asked if the U.S. government affected his decision, he said that their views were considered. In other words, he chickened out. Sorry hippies. Amsterdam’s all you’ve got now.
