My thoughts on…Zacarias Moussaoui’s sentence
May 5th 2006 -
Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the past few weeks, you know about the Moussaoui verdict. Zacarias Moussaoui, one of the engineers of the 9/11 tragedy, was sentenced to life in prison. I’ve been following every detail of the trial. Ok, not every detail, but the more interesting ones. This ain’t no O.J Simpson case after all. His lawyers tried to make him look like a bumbler, a low ranking Al-Qaeda member who had little involvement in the plot. But Moussaoui insisted that he was a high ranking member, and played a major role in 9/11 (Talk about taking pride in your work). He was defiant and remorseless throughout the trial, even during the tearful testimonies of the families of the 9/11 victims. He said that he expected no mercy. Understandable. If you caused one of the greatest catastrophes in recent history by sending thousands of innocents to their horriffic and fiery deaths, you wouldn’t expect any mercy either. He also said that he did not expect a fair trial.
The jury’s decision was a tough one indeed. Kill him and he becomes a martyr. And letting him live would seem too lenient for such as heinous crime. So they chose the greater of the two evils: life. As the judge delivered the sentence, she said, “Mr Moussaoui, you came here to be a martyr and die in a big bang of glory; but to paraphrase the poet T.S. Eliot, instead, you will die with a whimper.” Short sighted people might ask, “Why let him live?” Well, as the Judge Brinkema said, he will be denied martyrdom, the greatest honour for a Muslim. So he won’t be inspiring any future generation of terrorists. Plus it will teach Muslims that the evil Zionist empire is capable of mercy, hopefully giving them less reason to hate America. So suck that Moussaoui! You’ll spend the rest of your life caged like the monster that you are. Don’t drop the soap now, or else you’ll be the one that gets bombed.

Whether he lives or dies, he wins. He said “America, you lost!” after the jury read his verdict. Now, America will have to pay through our tax money to keep him alive and well fed for the rest of his life.
Great blog by the way. Thanks for your comments too.

I read that he’ll be spending 23 hours per day in solitary confinement for the rest of his life, facing a brick wall. That is enough to make anyone crazy.

David, on one aspect, you’re right. Then again, he’s going to have a lot of boyfriends in prison.

He should be spending 24 hours (not 23) in solitary confinement. I don’t know what he’ll be doing during that one hour, but think it will give him something to look forward to.

It wasn’t the judge’s decision that he spend the rest of his life in prison, it was the jury’s.
I think it was the right decision. And Moussaoui is the one who lost, not America. We get to keep this scum alive in a very unpleasant environment for a long, long time, and it’s worth every dime to do it. Putting him to death would have allowed him to win; keeping him imprisoned in an infidel’s jail is anethema to his desires.
