My thoughts on…the actor that might play young Kirk

If you’re a Trekkie like me, then you’re burning with anticipation for the arrival of the new Star Trek movie. You’re longing for another taste of Trek on the big screen, and the two years wait seems like an eternity. For those who don’t know, yes, there will be a new Star Trek movie opening in 2008, based on old school Trek. And no, William Shatner will not be playing Captain Kirk. He’s just too old. And besides, if he wanted the role, he would have resorted to devouring the flesh of the young. Joan Rivers does and it seems to work wonders for her. People have been wondering who will sit in the big chair and play the big man himself. Well, rumours have been floating around that BEN AFFLECK will be playing the part of young Kirk. Yes, Ben “Gigli” Affleck! I know, I was shocked as well. When I heard it, I said to myself, “Stick a fork in it. Trek is done.” Now this is mere speculation, but some pretty strong speculation. Hopefully they’ll find a more suitable actor or Ben will actually carry it off. This could kill the new Trek movie before it’s even born. Another thing to worry about concerning this movie. No word as to who will play Spock. Matt Damon perhaps?

On things like this I almost always hope for an unknown. Sci-Fi fans are usally pretty friendly to newcomers. But I’m sure Hollywood will do something obvious like an Alec Baldwin.

I’m not a big Star Trek fan but if Ben and Matt are the actors of choice, I think Matt should play Captain Kirk and Ben play Spock.

Despite that it is only speculation, I’m not surprised those two names came up.
