Yes folks, they did it again. The West Indies managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory once again when they lost by 27 runs to New Zealand yesterday. To those who were crushed by the loss, your faith in the West Indies is admirable. Misplaced, but admirable. To those who expected it, welcome to the club. My mother was one of those hopeful few. A die-hard West Indies fan, she faithfully watched each game, even the ones that lasted into the wee hours of the morning. Both of us struggled for control of the remote, as her dedication to the West Indies caused me to miss some Star Trek episodes, and I love me some Trek.

She was really into the game, and asked me for my opinion a couple times. I really couldn’t give an honest one, because I wasn’t paying much attention to the game. I lost my faith in the West Indies a long time ago. In fact, if a meteor crushed the entire West Indies team, it would barely register a blip on my radar. Ok, maybe that was a bit too harsh. If the meteor crushed Lara. Did you see the way he was out? The duck wasn’t the worst part, but the amateur way in which he was dispatched. Wicket struck on the first ball! I bet if you listened hard enough, you could hear the hopes of the Caribbean being crushed right after the defeat. Even Bangladesh could have pulled off a win with such a great start! In saying that, I have now realized that after years of mediocre performances, the West Indies have finally hit rock bottom. Pity. There’s one good thing that has come out of this though. My dominance of the television set has been restored, and I can once again nerd out on Star Trek, uninterrupted by the failures of Lara and company.
