My thoughts on…Cheney’s little accident
February 18th 2006 -
The Dick Cheney hunting accident has made numerous headlines, and given birth to many jokes. The incident was lampooned by just about every American late night show, such as The Daily Show, The Late Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Tonight Show. For those who didn’t catch these jokes, here’s an archive of them. It has become such a big issue that I just had to take my shot at it (Sorry, couldn’t resist).
Those whiny Liberals are using this to attack the Bush administration yet again, because everyone knows that recreational hunting has a great deal to do with politics. I know it’s fun to see the old bastard squirm and all, but really, is it right to make light of such an unfortunate incident? Shouldn’t we consider Cheney’s feelings? What if we we’re in his shoes and nearly took the life of one of our closest friends? Nah! I mean c’mon, the guy ain’t dead. He’s fine.
People are also concerned as to why the news was released 20 hours after the incident, and by people I mean big newspapers like The New York Times and The Washington Post. We’ll, excuse Mr. Cheney for being more concerned about his friend’s well-being than for providing the cover page story for newspapers nationwide. To his credit, Cheney showed true calibre (Ok, that’s the last one, I swear!) when he spoke on the incident with Fox News’ Brit Hume. The interview almost made him seem human, almost. He said that “It was something I will never forget” and that “It was one of the worst days of my life.” Well, one thing’s for sure, when bird hunting with Cheney, it’s better to be a bird than his hunting partner.

I think we are missing the boat here. The “liberals” make all the hoohaa because they are looking for ways to make headlines.
The real question is about the whitehouse press. They are offended because they, the elite, did not get the news first. How dare the VP not give them the scoop.
These people need a reality check.

I agree with you 100% and it will always be that way.

He’s a big fat, diseased, corrupt old man who SHOT his friend in the FACE.
Aside from my political feelings toward the jerk, he has absolutely no business handling a firearm - even in a canned hunt like he was on.
Without a fucking license, the cheap (lawbreaking!) turd.

I think people should have been more informed about the Katrina report and it’s findings/….. That was ignored during this Cheney bull….

The real issue is the secrecy and the delay in notification. This has only accented the Cheney operation procedure and brought it to a cresendo when basic adherence to Politics 101 would have it out front and including all relevant facts. By delaying, they automatically inject the distrust of their presentation to opinion and speculation that only draws the whole ordeal out further than is warranted.

Cheney was hammered, plain and simple. Is there a cover up? Sure there is, if the Veep is out hunting, throwing down some drinks, then shoots his buddy, that’s a major incident. If I’m Cheney’s handlers, I definitely keep the police away and don’t allow them to go near the Veep, definitely I would keep the breathalizer away.

I’m more interested in what happens if Whittington ends up dead because of this.
Does Cheney get arrested for manslaughter in the even of Whittington’s death? After all, the man has already had one heart attack due to the shooting.

I think this whole thing has been blown out of proportion. It was obviously an accident and I’m sure Dick Cheney is very upset about the whole thing.

I just thought I’d stop by and thank you for visiting my blog. I also want to thank you for having the balls to leave your name with your comment. There are too many people out there who come around, disagree with your opinion, and then hide under the name “Anonymous”. We all have our opinions, and I thank you for sharing yours.

I don’t think anything was up. I think people love drama and so they speculate way too much.
He probably was, as you said, concerned and if I were him or anyone in that limelight, I’d hide my stuff until it was paparazzi’ed too!
We call them ‘media’ when it’s an elected official but they are paparazzi when they act like this.
He can handle firearms fine — he made a mistake. I’ve seen alot of older men hunting in my area and they do just fine.
He will probably be much more careful. I am not blameless in my experiences so I can’t sit and judge the guy for making a mistake.
I tell my kiddos “that was an accident” so they will grow up and know the difference. We all make mistakes, remember? I think too many are quick to judge.

Out of over a million people that go hunting in Texas alone over the course of the year, there are 30 accidents.
So the odds are one in 33,333 against being shot. Think alcohol might increase the likelihood of shooting your pal?
Perhaps if he’d acquired a license he may have taken a refresher on proper firearms handling.
Also, blowing things out of proportion or not, he has lied numerous times over the course of this incident.
It’s just the tip of the iceberg, people.

Wow, who knew one old white guy shooting another would cause so much controversy? This has offically become my most commented post thus far! Thank you all for your input.
